I was always confused by the statement “Teach men not to rape" because it implies that men are taught to rape women. Or if men aren’t "taught" to not rape women then we will have the urge to do so.

My parents never taught me not to rape women. It was just common sense. The reality is some men (and women) are just sick. No matter what they are “taught” it is very well possible that they will still rape someone.

You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make them drink.

We know there isn’t like a Rape 101 class in highschool. We mean that boys at a young age are not given consquences for taking up a girl’s space because “boys will be boys” or how parents say he must like you if a boy hits or bullies you all the time. Or how schools police girls outfits but never the ridiculous pervy behavior of male students. Things like that teach rape is fine.

This is the first time I can remember someone putting it in these words and it is much appreciated. Thank you.

Okla. cop charged with assaulting 8 black women; NAACP seeks hate crime charges
An Oklahoma City police officer was charged Friday with raping or sexually abusing eight black women, and the NAACP is asking the U.S. Justice Department to file hate crime charges.
Officer Daniel Holtzclaw, 27, was charged with 16 counts, including first-degree rape, sexual battery, forcible oral sodomy, indecent exposure and stalking, ABC-affiliated KOCO-TV reported.
Mr. Holtzclaw is accused of raping at least two women while on duty and forcing several women to expose themselves and perform sex acts to keep themselves from being arrested.
The alleged victims, all black women, ranged from ages 34 to 58. Police suspect there may be more.
Anthony Douglas, president of the Oklahoma NAACP, told KOCO they plan to ask the U.S. attorney general to review the case and elevate the charges to hate crimes.
Friends and family say Mr. Holtzclaw is a victim of false accusations.
A Facebook page called “Justice for Daniel Holtzclaw” has more than 500 supporters. A GoFundMe page under the same name has raised more than $7,300 from nearly 40 donors for Mr. Holtzclaw’s legal fees.
“Daniel Holtzclaw will be vindicated, and will prevail,” the page states.

Unfortunately, unlike unicorns, white people’s historical and present record of limitless brutality towards people of color on all levels from interpersonal to institutional is very real.
